idempotency key

A client-supplied id that lets a retried request be de-duplicated to one effect.

A caller-supplied identifier stored server-side so that a retried request with the same key produces the same single effect. Confusions: it is not deduplication of identical payloads — the key is explicit, and it must be persisted to survive retries across process restarts.
