circuit breaker

A switch that stops calling a failing dependency for a cooldown, so failures do not pile up.

A breaker trips open after a failure threshold, short-circuiting calls for a cooldown, then allows a trial request (half-open) before closing. Confusions: it is not a retry (it stops calls), and it protects the caller, not the failing dependency.
